Director Of Applied Sports Science
CurrentThe Director of Applied Sports Science ensures superior cross-unit communication, coordination and organization applying sports science principles and experience to maximize the development of the physical, technical and psychological skills needed to elevate competitive success of Rice Athletics, the American Athletic conference and the NCAA. The Applied Sports Science Director advises and mentors coaches and staff. In addition, the Director acts as a Liaison to the Human Performance and Research Center. The Director enhances Rice’s autonomous medical management model and ensures that all student-athlete health care decisions are made under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Sports Performance and the Athletics Healthcare Administrator (AHCA), the Deputy Athletic Director and Medical Director/Team PhysicianDuties include:* Develop and recommend in coordination with the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and the Assistant Athletic Director of Medical Services and Research, integrated high-performance athlete strategies synergizing existing resources (e.g., sports performance, sports medicine/ athletic therapy, nutrition, sports psychology, and equipment).* Design and implement a sports science program including comprehensive data collection/analysis and monitoring systems to optimize decision outcomes for student-athlete development and performance.* Augment student-athlete health and safety through construction of enhanced recovery and injury prevention/rehabilitation programs.* Analyze student-athlete data for interpretation to coaching personnel, sports medicine personnel, sports performance personnel, and other technical staff.* Evaluate and administer technologies in collaboration with the sports performance team.* Work collaboratively with the sports performance and sports medicine teams to execute programming that enhances student-athlete experience in the Physical, Tactical, Psychological areas.
