Straight out of flight school after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy, it was clear that John had an uncanny ability to learn quick and teach his fellow students. He was one of few selected directly out of training to instruct basic and advanced pilotage in the T-37 Tweet. While serving in this role he was nominated by his students and received 4 “Outstanding Instructor” awards. While on active duty, John went on to serve as an Aircraft Commander on C-130 Hercules supporting the USAF Air Lift Command’s global mission and as an officer responsible for the safe transport of highly sensitive nuclear and chemical weapons in support of the 7th Air Force’s mission As a reserve officer, he served as an operational and instructor pilot in the A-10 Warthog and again on the WC-130 Hercules ensuring timely and critical information relating to hurricanes and tropical storms was gathered and transmitted to the USAF and the National Hurricane Center. John’s military career came full circle by serving as a Liaison Officer to the United States Air Force Academy interviewing and screening applicants interested in the path he himself took.John’s career at United Parcel Service (UPS) began while he was serving as a Liaison to the USAF Academy. He started as a Flight Engineer and gained invaluable experience and knowledge of the aircraft systems both in regular and irregular operations. Working his way up through the ranks, he has found himself a Captain on the Boeing 747 since 2010. The breadth of John’s experience all over the world in dynamic flight operations has given him a unique and valuable perspective. And his service to his community and those less fortunate as a Deacon in the Baptist Church and through his mission trips abroad with the Rotary Club have given him an intensely personal touch when dealing with coworkers and everyone he crosses paths with.
