📣 I have 10+ years of experience in the data science field – first as a fisheries consultant in Cape Town (yes – I counted fish for a living), and then as an actuarial analyst at Momentum Investments. My passion is data: understanding the source, understanding the content, and most importantly – finding those business understandings inside Big Data that can help propel our decision-making into the future. I firmly believe that my fusion of Critical & Creative thinking is the key to my success as an analyst in this area. Big Data = Big Solutions!📣 My current role at CGI is in the analysis and consulting space, but it is still early days - watch this space!My previous role revolved around supporting Momentum Investments with:📊 Analytics insights into our day-to-day investment platform business;📊 Unpacking stakeholder queries that require a deep dive into the underlying data, often down to a technical level;📊 Assisting our senior management teams with critical reporting and insights into the business decisions which arise in their environment.📃My technical background is based around an actuarial science degree from Stellenbosch University, further studies into economics and econometrics in 2009, as well as part-time ongoing studies from IBM into data science. I am passionate about expanding my mastery of data-driven programming languages and tools – Python and Hadoop are currently in my sights, along with Power BI for data visualization – and use SQL and advanced Excel on a daily basis.⛺️ Outside of the office, I spend most of my time either inside a good novel, in my workshop tinkering with machines, or out hiking with friends. I also do some writing on the side, with a number of my articles published by a variety of gaming magazines in the EU and UK (Cubicle 7, Scriptarium) – which has definitely helped me with corporate report writing as well!
