Ellison & Groom Ltd - Traditional Timber Sliding Sash Windows and Bespoke JoineryI have been co-owner since 1996, the company was initially set up as a partnership after buying the company off the previous owner Walter Ellison. At this time the company employed two members of staff, but it wasn't long before our growth in sales resulted in additional staff being recruited and in 1998 we bought out a rival joinery manufacturing company, keeping the previous owner on as our new foreman. In 2001 the company became Ltd. Year on year sales increased and in 2003 we decided we could no longer trade efficiently from our current facility and bought a new single storey factory in Blackburn, our staff levels had increased to 17 at this point. The credit crunch brought an abrupt halt to the progress in sales and brought in a restructuring plan, growth has now ensued albeit with fewer staff, and as with most successful small businesses we have changed our business model to adapt to shifts in market trends, growth in new areas has been very encouraging in recent times and we remain as busy as ever. Always looking for new opportunities though!!The skills I have aquired since becoming a co-owner are probably similar to that of most small business owners. On a day to day basis I deal with customer relations, sales, account managment, purchasing, debt collecting,product development, quality checks, health and safety issues, employment management, marketing, estimating,IT, spray finishing, and much more as all of you running small businesses will know. Oh! and occasionally I manage to squeeze a bit of joinery in!!Our company aims to supply or supply and install high quality manufactured joinery products mainly to the North West of England, London and Lincolnshire."John is the ultimate professional, both in his craft and managerial aspect of the business.
