Greenville Office Leader John Edwards previously served as the Market Sector Leader for Living Environments. In a career spanning three decades, John has served as a trusted advisor, design thought leader, relationship builder, ambassador for the community, urban design advocate and champion of affordable housing. He has been recognized over sixty times through various awards, publications, video productions and speaking engagements – cited by peers, allied trade professionals, and consumers for leading the design of a deep portfolio of successful architectural projects.His participation, guidance and community leadership have been directed toward several organizations including GPATS Advisory Committee, the Greenville’ Design & Preservation Commission (DPC) and the Greenville Design Review Board (DRB). John is a charter member of AIA-CRAN.In service on various Advisory, Task Force, Board and Commission roles over the past two decades, John has become a trusted advisor to numerous Upstate initiatives. In Greenville, these roles have directly contributed ideas, energy and positive influence in Greenville’s rebirth and ascension - often uniquely bridging downtown and neighborhood improvements. On Boards and Commissions, through regulatory service roles, John has provided review, advice, and commentary for work produced by peer architects to support quality and rigor across a wide swath of projects. Some highlights of his board service include Greenville Pickens Area Transportation Study (GPATS) Advisory Committee, the City of Greenville’ Design & Preservation Commission (DPC) and the City of Greenville Design Review Board (DRB).A major part of John’s legacy work is the life-changing work performed in service to our region’s most vulnerable citizens through support for a local nonprofit organizations including, Gateway House, Triune Mercy Center, Genesis Homes, United Housing Connections, Safe Harbor, Homes of Hope, United Ministries and the Greenville Housing Fund. More than a thousand upstate families have been uplifted through John’s work.His engagement in serving Upstate housing needs, in particular, has been transformative for the community. John has led the planning, design and production of over 300 affordable units locally – ensuring islands of affordability in an ever-changing and challenging socio-economic landscape. In this work, John has created designs with broad appeal and support. His career-long commitment to quality workforce housing has helped to radically improve the design of Greenville’s affordable housing inventory.
