My current role is working with our new parent company to integrate the business and develop synergies which will allow us to maintain and enhance the profitability of the business.I work between the UK offices but focus on Aberdeen, where I fulfil a technical role, and the Warrington Head Office.Within my current role I continue to work as a Principal Consultant in Safety and Risk with my main focus on the oil and gas industry, although my expertise allows be to work in other industries.

In the role of Managing Director I turned the business around from a loss making business at the end of 2016 to posting a profit at the end of 2017.In this role I worked with the parent company and investment bankers to prepare the company for sale. We sold the company to Thornton Tomasetti Inc in June 2018.I remained in the business to support the integration.

ESR Technology are one of the UK’s leading engineering, safety and risk consultancies.My current role is to head up the Aberdeen business unit for ESR technology with responsibility for business planning, project management and delivery, customer management and technical assurance.

A senior technical role within the company and responsible for the following areas:Provision of technical expertise to customers and technical support, guidance, training and governance for the safety teams, both for offshore and onshore work areas such as QRAs, Safety Cases, HAZIDs, EER Studies, Pipeline Risk Assessments, etc as well as one-off projects.Business Development. Working with customers to take the initial contact, through the development of the project specification to the receipt of an order. Management of the delivery of the work using appropriate project management methodologies including resource management, time and cost planning and quality assurance. As point of contact for the customer I manage the customer interface and receive feedback on performance and also where appropriate develop KPIS with the customer. Support the development of a Business Plan for both the regional and global Hazard and Risk Teams in line with the corporate strategy.

I had a short term assignment as Head of Consultancy Services for Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services. My role was to prepare a business plan to extend the Advantica consultancy business into western Europe. This role is based at the Germanischer Lloyd offices in Hamburg which both promoted the integration of the companies by transfer of senior staff and allowed ready access to the customers and contacts of Germanischer Lloyd to help develop new business for Advantica.I prepared a business plan specific to the western Europe market which looked at the following areas:Current Revenues and Markets - a review of the current areas that Advantica does work in western Europe and includes a SWOT analysis.Competitive Structure - An overview of the market; PEST analysis; proposed investment, CAPEX and OPEX for the region; review of customer groups and competitor analysis.Advantica Offerings - A review of the Advantica offerings with respect to the region; identification of key offerings; plans to promote those key offerings and estimated revenue for each offering.Infrastructure Planning - resource requirements, sales, business development and marketing requirements and provisional budget.Initial Steps - a road map of the way forward, detailing realistic growth targets and investment required. The business plan formed the backbone of the Advantica growth into western Europe and is currently being implemented. Within this role I worked with Germanischer Lloyd offices in different countries in Europe to develop new business opportunities for Advantica and set up framework agreements with several companies.

Following the acquisition of Advantica by Germanischer Lloyd in August 2007 I worked on the cross-company integration team and was a senior manager on the team with specific responsibility for integrating the testing facilities and offices of the two companies. The project was undertaken using the Prince 2 methodology.Robust methodologies were developed to be used for future acquisitions

Manged the world renowned Spadeadam Test Site taking it from break even to 20% EBIT in 4 years.The test site is a remote site and is used to conduct large-scale experiments or tests that are of a potentially hazardous nature for several industries including the oil and gas industry, the energy, construction, chemical and process industries and government agencies. The Spadeadam Test Site was run as a stand alone business and the key aspects of my role were:Business Growth. Within the period I managed the site the revenue was grown from £2.6m in 2004 to in excess of £5m in 2006 and the profit was increased from £486k in 2004 to in excess of £1m in 2006. Project Management. The site conducted over 200 projects each year and I was the single point of contact for the client for the majority of the projects. I project managed any large projects with values of up to several million pounds. I am Prince2 trained and use a variety of different project management tools depending on the project requirements. Management of Health, Safety and Environment. I was responsible for the Health, Safety and Environment at the site. Quality Management. Advantica have a Quality Management System that is accredited to ISO 9001:2000. The accreditation extends to the Spadeadam Test Site where I was responsible for its implementation and operation. Facility Management. I was responsible for the management of the infrastructure and operations of the Test Site.
