The EAM program at Arkansas Tech University has received accreditation from the Foundation on Higher Education in Disaster/Emergency Management and Homeland Security. This is the first program to be accredited nationally as well as internationally. The ATU program has also received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities to be offered as an online degree which can be delivered over the Internet.

(Arkansas Code Annotated (ACA) 1275101 et al) directs the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management to maintain a management system that effectively and efficiently provides mitigation of and recovery from the effects of natural and man caused disasters. This goal is accomplished through a series of programs designed to identify all disasters threatening the State; assist state agencies, local governments, volunteer and other organizations in determining the means to mitigate disaster effects; develop procedures for fast and efficient deployment of identified resources to effectuate mitigation and recovery; continually exercise all plans, evaluate results and make modifications to ensure procedures are effective; and, coordinate the efforts of all organizations responding to disasters. The Russellville Fire Department responds to approximately 2000 calls for service annually. Emergency Operations include fire suppression, emergency medical services (BLS and ALS), rescue, and hazardous materials response. Russellville’s 28.6 square miles are protected by four fire stations. Each station is staffed around the clock. Personnel are assigned to a 24-hour shift, working one shift on and two shifts off. All firefighters are certified emergency medical technicians. 17 firefighters are paramedics. 35 firefighters are certified hazmat technicians. The City of Russellville has an ISO rating of 3.
