Mentor five undergraduate first-year students in the College of Biological Sciences

UC Davis Health Burn Intensive Care Unit (ICU)Primary tasks include changing patient dressing (Ex. Applying Xeroform/Bacitracin), changing patient linen when needed, and assisting nurses and burn technicians with showering patients. On slower days, I follow Burn Surgeons into the operation room, typically viewing skin graphing or amputation of necrotic tissue after burn injury.

Hmong Lifting Underserved Barriers (H.L.U.B) Student-run Clinic; English Patient Advocate, Cardiopulmonary Committee Primary Tasks include collecting vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and heart rate), assisting patients with clinic-related paperwork, and recommending clinic services based on their medical history. Hmong Population Retrospective Chart Review Co-Lead: Beginning to co-lead research project that aims to review prior Hmong Patients with H.L.U.B. Clinic in order to tailor our services to better serve the Sacramento Hmong population.

LatinX Patient Outreach Initiative (Public Health Project): Co-spearheaded with department manager project to outreach to LatinX patients due a discovery in high Fail-To-Keep rates among LatinX patient in Sacramento. Outreach protocol currently still in use by Chronic Conditions Management Department in Sacramento.Primary tasks include reviewing patient charts to identify healthcare gaps, specifically in diabetes medication (Statins) and make patient outreach phone calls to patients to schedule an appointment with pharmacists. (~1000 patient charts reviewed over the course of internship)Spent 40 hours shadowing health professionals in the Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Dermatology, Primary Care, Ambulatory Care, Respiratory Medicine, and many others. Completed weekly training with Kaiser Permanente staff to develop professionalism and build my identity and interests with other high school students.

Partnered with the City of West Sacramento for weekly professionalism training with other high school interns. At Elica Health Centers in the Medical and Dental Billing Department, I would verify patient information before collecting data from patient charts to forward to an outreach department (reviewed 1500 patient charts).

Developed a design proposal to implement for my high school and presented to a board of engineers for grant. My project: I noticed a lack of culinary facilities on my campus. Therefore, I was interested in seeking grant money to develop a facility to enable culinary classes. I designed a facility with other students and a modern model shelf that would enable the facility to recycle water to reduce environmental impact.
