Mr. Given’s leadership role spanned several phases of remarkable growth in the company’s fund management and its urban district investment model as exemplified in Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles and applied in markets across the country. Mr. Given joined the founding partners of CIM Group to work on the company’s breakthrough “street retail” investments on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, and Colorado Boulevard in Old Pasadena. As an early Principal and partner, John played a key role in growing the company’s investment and development reputation. Award winning projects include Birch Street Promenade in Brea, On Broadway in San Diego, The Strand in Huntington Beach, Gas Company Lofts and Market Lofts (with Ralphs supermarket) in downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and Highland, Sunset Vine Tower, 800J Lofts in Sacramento, and 901 Hancock in West Hollywood.

Mr. Given was the Lead Project Manager for area planning and joint development at three Hollywood METRO stations (Hollywood/Highland, Hollywood/Vine and Hollywood/Western), all of which have been fully built out and proved essential to the Hollywood renaissance. He also worked on a Blue Line commuter parking facility (Willow Station) and future transit corridor alignment and station area planning for what ultimately has opened as the METRO Gold Line through Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.

Mr. Given served as the lead Project Planner for the South Park community of Downtown Los Angeles. During this period the foundation was established for what is now a thriving residential and entertainment district adjacent to Staples Center and LA Live, with over 6,000 dwelling units. Accomplishments include: land use and public infrastructure framework; over three contiguous blocks of market rate and affordable housing development with over 750 homes; acquisition and design for Grand Hope Park; development plans and agreements for the Fashion Institute of Design & Management (FIDM); and, community plan amendments and rezoning laws.
