For over 30 years, I have had a diverse and challenging career as a mobile crane operator. It has taken me all over Canada and has provided exposure to the Marine, Oil, and Gas industry, Mining, Concrete Forming, Taxi Crane work, Commercial Crane support as well as Bridge building. I was also able to teach my trade as an Instructor which was very rewarding. I have had the opportunity to operate many types and sizes of Telescopic mobile cranes as well as Lattice Boom and Level Luffing type cranes in sizes up to 300 tons in capacity. At these various sites, I have also operated telehandlers, forklifts, front-end loaders, and bobcats.Some relevant equipment highlights include:• Friction crane experience on P&H, Linkbelt, and Lima up to 250 ton• Hydraulic lattice boom experience on Liebherr and Manitowoc up to 300 ton• Rough Terrain cranes including Grove and Tadano up to 160 ton• Truck mount crane experience with Grove, Linkbelt, and Liebherr up to 240 ton• Class 1 truck driving ability hauling counterweights and freight deliveryBeing a crane operator often means working away from home in a camp environment. I have worked at remote sites on and off for 18 years of my career. Working as an operator also means dealing with many cultures including First Nations. I have strived to constantly challenge and upgrade myself throughout my career. Safety has always been my top priority. Mentoring and inspiring those around me is also important. A positive outlook and communicating openly with those working with and around the crane have allowed me to partake in many special lifting projects. Being a crane operator means being proactive inside a team of competent and experienced professionals, and I have always enjoyed this environment.
