Responsible for the design and creation of a Recommender system for recommending jobs to users in the CareerHub job advertisement system. Used Data Mining techniques, including Collaborative Filtering and Cosine Similarity to recommend jobs based on previous search activity. Implemented the system using SQL Server, and attached this to the existing SQL Server database.

Achievements: • Sucessfully redeveloped and upgraded existing Oracle 9i Data Warehouse ETL control process to Oracle 11g, utilising parallelism and other features of 11g to provide a greatly improved process in terms of maintainability and performance.• Was part of a development team that successfully delivered a major data warehouse reporting solution using OBIEE.• Successfully developed and implemented a suite of reports to comply with the Department's new geographical region model. • Successfully un-archived data from legacy tapes spanning traffic data from many years, and rebuilt Oracle tables for subsequent analysis.

Responsibilities: • Development of the Mincom EnergyPoint software - an integrated energy trading and risk management product, written for the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) that targets wholesale and retail participants in the energy market. • Design and implementation of complex software solutions using PL/SQL, including the development of software components for financial systems, and building code to apply mathematical algorithms for risk analysis purposes relating to energy trading. • Provide support for existing Mincom customers using the EnergyPoint product. Achievements • Successfully developed new components of the EnergyPoint software, consistently meeting the required deadlines. • Successfully re-engineered existing, poorly written and poorly performing components of the EnergyPoint software. • Modified existing Oracle processing in the software product to achieve significant performance increases. • Successfully provided support requirements of existing EnergyPoint customers.

Telstra Corporation Limited – Data Warehouse • Provide operational support for the data warehouse of the Network Planning division, including monitoring of scheduled jobs responsible for creation of the warehouse’s materialised views, escalation of job failures, and scheduling of new and existing jobs to most efficiently utilize system resources.• Build automation scripts to dramatically improve maintenance of data warehouse file systems • Provide impact analysis tasks on the data warehouse to asses the feasibility of major changes in the source transactional systems. Achievements: • Successfully migrated the Oracle database component of a very large legacy network planning system into a brand new architecture. • Successfully created generic maintenance scripts to significantly reduce the disk space of the input file system used by the data warehouse.

Achievements: • Chosen as company representative to re-establish operations in New Zealand after a long absence, by providing services to exploration companies there. This significantly contributed to the New Zealand operation now being a permanent and important part of the business. • Management of the operational base in Newcastle during regular manager’s absence. This involved managing both people and resources.
