Co-developed acclaimed public radio series and directed administrative, legal and budgeting functions of independent non-profit organization. Worked with more than 100 citizen-essayists to produce statements of belief for weekly broadcast, initially on NPR, and later on Sirius-XM satellite radio. Co-edited three audio books and six books of This I Believe essays, including The New York Times best seller, “This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women.”

Richmond, Kentucky

Actively engaged staff of mixed-format public radio station to improve news coverage and classical music programming, resulting in increased listenership and membership contributions. Secured and administered grant funding for on-air and online reporting about chronic health problems in central Appalachia, then coordinated outreach activities with community partners and designed companion website. Developed annual budgets for station programming. Hosted afternoon drive news programming.

Louisville, Kentucky

Produced acclaimed programming on workplace violence, agricultural and environmental issues, the civil rights movement, and Kentucky history and literature for local, regional and national broadcast. Documentary work included "Sisters in Pain" (distributed by PRI in 2004), and "Breaking the Cycle: How Do We Stop Child Abuse?" (distributed by NPR in 1994).

Louisville, Kentucky

Directed daily broadcast operations of public radio station, managing annual budgets of more than $450,000 and five full-time and four part-time staff members. Developed and implemented news/talk format for station in 1996, resulting in a 70 percent increase in audience. Assisted with design, equipment selection and transition to new $5 million digital facility in 2000. Secured programming partnerships with numerous community groups.
