Designing quantitative and qualitative research solutions for a range of public sector clients in the UK and internationally. Specialisation in research with employers and stakeholders on a range of issues including skills development, taxation and government regulation.

I helped develop Ipsos MORI’s employer research offer through managing quantitative research on business compliance and qualitative taxation research. The latter culminated in running a workshop at HM Revenue and Customs’ International Conference on Institutional Taxation Analysis in 2009. I also managed a variety of large scale quantitative research projects, including a CATI survey with nearly 240,000 learners.

Through my experience with learndirect and Heist, I helped shape a corporate response to business development in the higher education sector as well as providing significant input into developing Ipsos MORI’s business-to-business social research offer.

San Jose, Costa Rica

I spent eight months assisting a voluntary organisation in Costa Rica with several important administrative functions. Of particular note is the advice and guidance I was able to provide in writing funding bids for ANAI. Specifically, I translated scientific explanations of ANAI’s ecological work into text which was more accessible to the lay-person. This helped the organisations finding bids to appeal to a wider procurement audience.

The core of this role was managing two major tracking projects; the first was a brand tracker for learndirect’s advice service and the second was the design and implementation of new product development research for a UK Online service called myguide. Both projects used qualitative and quantitative measures to understand service users’ views and to help develop and improve each offer. Writing invitations to tender and assessing responses from potential clients was also an important feature of the role to ensure learndirect’s parent company, Ufi, achieved the best value for money from its contractors. I also instigated better use of the company’s GIS resources in order to add value to research findings.

One of the key benefits of belonging to a smaller agency was having immediate exposure to the client-facing aspects of agency-side research. This means I have been developing associated communication and listening skills throughout my research career.
