About John Harris

I have around 30 years of experience in the field of Architecture as a Licensed Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am Currently not licensed, as I have done other things for a while, but I am going to investigate what it would take to be licensed again. Most of my experience as an Architect has been on the Technology and Production side of the projects with various CAD programs. To a lesser extent I have design residential and military projects. Over the years I have been involved in Projects for the government school and University work, Hospitals, Corrections, Senior's, Commercial Projects and Industrial Projects.

These projects needed to be produced in the metric system. Other projects were for the educational K-12 market. 2 or 3 of the projects that I was responsible for the federal government were required to be drafted in MicroStation, I would prepare drawings, and sketches to give to the Cad operator who would draft them in MicroStation.

In the early days, I was primarily a draftsperson producing working drawings with plastic lead on mylar. I would primarily work on architectural drawings, but would occasionally work on drawings for the structural, mechanical, and electrical departments. As time went on, I would get more responsibility on projects. The office went onto drawings produced with ink on mylar and the pin bar overlay system. Eventually I was trained in DataCAD computer aided design. In the winter of 1989, I sat for the Architectural Licensing Exam in Richmond, Virginia. I passed all sections on my first try and became a licensed Architect in VA in September 1989.
