- My principal job is to lead teams in identifying new problems, in specifying new and elegant 5G+ and 6G solutions for MN product and 3GPP standards. - In 2024 was honored to be asked to present to hundreds of Nokia Architecture and Specification folks on my approach to keeping an innovative mindset. Have had well over 300 patent families filed, while leading hundreds of teams and working with over 150 different co-inventors. This has continued with 4 “Inventor of the year" / Top Inventor awards at Nokia. Work in 2023/24 has included an increased focus on proposing new ideas/patents for 3GPP Rel. 19/20 and 6G. - A recent corporation wide honor cited my "team building efforts in creating critical linkages between technical leadership and business success”. I truly enjoy immersing myself in new areas/teams, meeting customers, anticipating problems, devising solutions, quantifying benefits, creating solutions, and connecting the results directly with products and our customers. - As a part of this work, lead teams (e.g. direct team of 20+ people, with 50+ more directed by the team's outputs as a part of the proposal and specification of mobile network features (e.g. leading a couple of features I proposed in 2022/23, leading our worldwide UL CoMP technology efforts, etc.). - As a part of this process, I frequently present externally to other "top" technology companies, internally on my feature work. It was an honor to represent innovation at an annual Nokia executive board meeting. These efforts also resulted in a co-authored IEEE Best Paper Award. This work has also benefited from my earlier academic study of probability, prediction and optimization of wireless performance as this has enabled quantifying benefits for various customers.

Specifics include:- Most recently (2023-2024) as a "Principal technical leader" focused on both proposing new MN SW features concepts (e.g. one major idea went commercial in 2023), and proposing new ideas for 5G Advanced and 6G, with over a dozen patents filed in late 2023 / early 2024 (RAN1,RAN2,RAN3,SA2).- From 2018 to ~2022, lead teams (of 10+ people) in the proposal, and specification of key large (top several) mobile network features for our customers, while contributing many new (and patentable) aspects to the solutions now implemented. - In 2016-2018 was team leader, for numerous engineers across a range of areas, where we specified the complete solution for ~5 of our largest new mobile network customer features, while contributing many new (and patentable) aspects to the solutions adopted. These features were then implemented using these specifications. - Led the innovation team which won a top 3 award in Nokia Innovation Award (among 100+ entries), and the top award among the 12 CTO projects at the Nokia Innovation Day.- Earned “Inventor of the Year” award in 3 of 4 years (2012/13, 2013/14. and 2015/16)- ~50 new first patents were funded and filed by Nokia/NSN during 5 years.- Presented to numerous customers and analysts as a subject matter and innovation expert. - Created solutions impacting UL and DL capacity/coverage, security, location, application optimization, NFV, IoT, caching, navigation, voice, video, and others. - Authored numerous standards contributions and ecosystem proposals, while collaborating across both continents and functional areas.
