About John Heckmann
After graduation from the University of Memphis School of Journalism and Strategic Media, I became involved with the Memphis marketing community, and have been so for 30 years. In my former role I served as President and Managing Partner of the direct mail advertising firm: Power Marketing Company of Memphis, Inc. – a public, private and nonprofit partnership – working with Memphis Light Gas & Water (MLGW) and The Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA). Next I worked in corporate sponsorship at WKNO Public Media — PBS-TV & NPR-FM — as Corporate Support Account Executive. I am currently with the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), in the role of Transit Advertising Sales Manager. In my spare time I enjoy cultivating my lifelong passions for music and photography.

Power Marketing Company of Memphis, Inc. partnered with Memphis Light Gas and Water (MLGW) and the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA) to raise funds for the Plus-1 Utility Assistance Program, while enabling area businesses to reach household decision makers in the Memphis/ Shelby County area. Memphis Power Ads were distributed to over 370,000 households.As Managing Partner, I initiated contact with advertising managers and business owners, presented advantages of the direct mail advertising program, closed the sale, worked with clients to produce effective advertisements, designed and produced advertisements using graphic arts skills and tools, established and maintained working relationships with clients, vendors and distributors to produce the advertising program. My secondary responsibilities included: contract negotiation, government bid authorship and accounting functions. I was also responsible for development, maintenance, social media promotion, and search engine optimization of a consumer website: www.MemphisPowerAds.com.
