One of two head teaching assistants for an introductory computing skills course at Michigan State University, CSE101. This is a very large course with around 1,800 students and 70 staff members during a typical fall or spring semester. Main responsibilities include teaching a section, developing course content, developing evaluation criteria, and last but not least, developing and supporting much of the software and some of the hardware required to administer the course. These systems include staff support, payroll and task management, as well as many student resources and student evaluation infrastructure, although much of the course content is delivered using a LON-CAPA system supported by the University. This position requires many skills, from public speaking to system administration, from motivational leadership to the ability to prioritize tasks, and the organizational and programming skills needed to keep the websites and other systems running smoothly.
