John is currently on the supervisory team of five PhD candidates (15 over 15 years including principle supervisor). He has conducted vegetation mapping over most of NSW and has placed well over 30,000 floristic survey sites. John has produced 120 peer reviewed journal publications and over 300 professional reports. Currently John is expanding his experience in the use of modelling programs for predictive and landscape management purposes. John has published widely across a number of local and top ranked international scientific journals on subjects such as the the affects of climate seasonality, maintenance of diversity, phytogeography, wetlands, community dynamics, vegetation and species delineation, fire ecology and management, weed management, threatened species survey and management, public and scientist perception of environmental debates, stand dynamics, fauna resources and habitat use, vegetation mapping and marginalised rural industries to name major themes. John is also leading expert in plant identification and systematics. He has produced a number of taxonomic treatises and has published new species and names within Eucalyptus, Acacia, Prostanthera, Boronia, Trochocarpa, Brachyloma, Homoranthus, Phyllanthus, Sauropus and Micromyrtus.

It is devoted to vegetation survey and classifi cation at any organizationaland spatial scale and without restriction to certain methodological approaches. The journal publishes original papers that develop new vegetationtypologies as well as applied studies that use such typologies, for example,in vegetation mapping, ecosystem modelling, nature conservation, land usemanagement or monitoring. Particularly encouraged are methodological studiesthat design and compare tools for vegetation classifi cation and mapping, such as algorithms, databases and nomenclatural principles. Papers dealingwith conceptual and theoretical bases of vegetation survey and classifi cationare also welcome. While large-scale studies are preferred, regional studieswill be considered when fi lling important knowledge gaps or presenting newmethods. Show less
