While with SAPD I patrolled several districts of the city for several years. Handling calls varying from Critical Crisis Response, Theft in progress, Assaults in progress, traffic accidents to minor civil offenses. Each call took the proper amount of investigation in order to make sure the incident had ended and that everyone was safe. Also in the course of my career I have made high numbers of traffic stops, arrest and citizen interactions. In each interaction with the public demanded high customer service. Not every interaction went with a positive outcome dependent on the choices that were made. However, I always made every attempt to sale the best possible outcome with the least amount of resistance to both the victim and offender. I worked in several specialty units over the years. From the Vehicle Crimes / Tow Truck unit, Problem Oriented Policing unit to an event coordinator responsible for the security for events at the Alamodome, Convention Center, La Valitta and Market Square. I will explain in detail the responsibilities and expectations required while in all of these units. In the Vehicle Crimes / Tow Truck unit I was responsible for the compliance and enforcement of current towing laws in the city of San Antonio. I had several responsibilities such as clearing the SAPD impound yards and conducting the auctions. Working hand in hand to regulate towing companies to Municipal law, State law and Texas Department of Regulation sanctions. While in this unit I assisted with establishing new municipal legislation setting the price per tow. This also required attention to detail when reading over all the tow logs for the city. I was also required to make large accidents involving 18 wheelers when they crashed and lost their load. I worked in the Problem Oriented Policing Unit which was Responsible for looking for innovative ways to deter or lower crimes in areas of interest. For example, I wrote the first project for the unit which was named the Safe Downtown Streets. During that time there had been a higher number of violent crimes in the downtown district. The project worked with Officers from our unit and several outside agencies as well as partnering with business owners to affect a buy in to our goal to lower crimes downtown. The project focused on criminal elements that were coming into the area from other areas of town. Some minor issues that were addressed were blind spots, lack of lighting in high congested areas. The project found that we did have an impact lowering crime in the area.
