Originally from Chicago, Illinois, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where I majored in Political Science. I was awarded the POSSE scholarship, which supports emerging leaders from urban high schools around the country to become first-generation college graduates. My personal and educational experiences sparked my interest in public service and motivated me to apply to an AmeriCorps program called City Year, where I was responsible for the academic improvements and mentoring initiatives of high school students. I continued to work with the organization as a Program Manager, deploying and developing a team of 18 full-time AmeriCorps members into 2 high-need schools in the Miami-Dade community. My team’s core responsibilities included the implementation of social-emotional learning activities, data-driven academic interventions, and community development. Following this experience, I worked as a Program Officer at the United Way of Miami-Dade where I supported the development and execution of United Way’s work in education including research, community engagement, investment process management, grant monitoring, and execution of special initiatives. During this experience, I gained vast knowledge and respect for grant management and administration; administrating over 30 million dollars in financial assistance to families, and over 2 million dollars in grants to non-profit partners. Subsequently, I supported the Miguel B. Fernandez School of Business at Miami Dade College, developing new articulations for our degree programs, and using data to inform enrollment and retention strategies. During this time I completed a Masters in Anthropology and Social Justice at Harvard Extension, publishing a Thesis on technological impacts on social progress. Currently, I am helping to advance the mission of AmeriCorps as a Program Officer where I am charged with the execution of the American Rescue Plan.
