I am an author-scientist and knowledge communicator whose primary work is in discovering new knowledge about the past life of our planet and sharing it with global audience, through many kinds of media ranging from peer-reviewed scientific papers through to popular books, blogs, podcasts, and documentary films. My scientific research is about the early evolution of back-boned creatures (vertebrates) using fossils to determine the stages of the assembly of the vertebrate body plan through time. We have built a new vertebrate palaeontology lab at Flinders to develop new techniques to prepare and study fossils.
