Working alongside a CVS (Chief Sub Video) and Ingest Operators for Sky News, I am responsible for ensuring that the studio gallery have the relevant vision available at all times. I supplement and enhance pictures cut by the production by finding additional clips on the server or using an EVS LSM remote to create new clips or playlists - ensuring that the content I offer is relevant and suitable (in terms of copyright restrictions and Ofcom regulations). I follow direction from the director/producer in the gallery - for example: cueing statements or press conferences and turning them around with speed and precision. The role is integral during picture-heavy breaking news stories and periods with technical difficulties.I still assist on Ingest and am responsible for training others on both Ingest and Playout.

Working for Sky Production Services, I work at Sky News and am responsible for recording video feeds to ensure the newsroom has access to clips as quickly as possible.Monitoring each hour of news coverage and following each day's bookings, I ingest multiple feeds of media using EVS technology, making sure that recordings are complete and clips are accurately labelled according to naming conventions.I liaise with Satellite Operations, News Operation Control, production teams and journalists to record and QC feeds and deal with ad-hoc requests. I am also responsible for playing out material from our server to other news outlets such as the BBC, ITN, APTN and Reuters.

Ingesting Digibeta and HD CAM tapes through Amberfin ICR and Pipeline using a flexicart.QC of media to ensure ingested or received files meet technical specifications and recording information into the Filemaker database. Flagging problems with co-ordinators/librarians as they arise.Implementing standards conversions - PAL to NTSC (and vice versa) using a Blackmagic converter and Pipeline.Preparing media for promos and VOD schedules.Down-converting media from HD to SD, implementing laybacks and producing DVDs.Creating MOVs and DVDs wrapped with foreign language WAVs for broadcast in Scandinavia, Poland and Italy.Basic compliance editing - completing edits as per their compliance EDL.

Coordinating resources in order to maximise efficiency - such as exporting video files, transferring media to relevant servers, downloading media from suppliers, transcoding files (mov-to-mxf) and delivering files to the client.Using the Filemaker database to ensure that assets progress through the workflow and aiming to achieve expected delivery targets.Directing media checkers, to ensure files are being checked according to TX-priority or promo-priority and responding to their enquiries concerning media.Fixing editor faults in FCP - such as production clock faults.Managing a significant amount of data, archiving between several servers and an external Quantum archive (using a Storage DNA interface).Liaising with relevant departments and management to flag problems such as faulty media, compliance concerns, technical issues or complications with workflow.Ad-hoc tasks for the client or external customers - for example DVD compressing/authoring/burning or copying media to external hard drives.

Following audio-visual checking procedures on MOV and MXF video files to ensure that client specifications were met and flagging problems such glitches, editor errors or compliance issues.Accurately logging work into a Filemaker database.Driving tapes to and from the BBC's White City Dispatch and Red Bee Media.Covering co-ordinators' holidays, developing a greater understanding of workflow and the relationship with the client (UKTV).
