  • Missing Maps Project
    Volunteer Digital Mapper
Missing Maps Project Sep 2016 - Present
    Tenerife
Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people. Digital mappers use satellite and aerial images to map areas of the world that lack detailed or up-to-date maps. In some cases there may be an immediate humanitarian crisis where good maps are urgently needed. The rudimentary maps on the OpenStreetMap digital platform are then validated and expanded by volunteers on the ground in the areas concerned in a way that is intended to be sustainable. https://hotosm.org/updates/2014-11-05_missing_maps
  • World Archives And Freecen Projects

As a contributor to the World Archives Project, I assist with the indexing of historical documents. The Ancestry World Archives Project is made up of thousands of volunteers from around the world. In the course of our work, the details of our social history and information about the lives of individual people long ago forgotten are found and made accessible. In my spare moments, I am currently working on documents associated with the re-settlement of people in London under Poor Law provisions, 1695-1940 and, also, information on ship voyages, crew members and apprentices for vessels registered in Liverpool between 1860 -1919. The FreeCEN project’s aim is to provide a “free-to-view” online searchable database of the 19th century Scottish census returns. It is part of the larger UK Free Census Project (FreeCEN). I am working with Census data relating to Moray and Ross & Cromarty.
