John was a Non Executive Director of Partex BV, Foster Wheeler AG, Aquamarine Power Ltd and Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production LLC, in addition to advisory positions.

John joined the Board of Lamprell plc as a Non Executive Director in May 2013. In September 2017, he was appointed as Non Executive Chairman of the Company. Prior to his appointment, as Non Executive Chairman, he was Chairman of the Nomination and Governance Committee, Chairman of the Remuneration & Development Committee and a Member of the Audit and Risk Committee.

John joined Shell in 1986. His first position with Shell was at PDO, where he stayed for two years. From 1988 he held a range of technical and managerial positions in Shell, with postings in the UK and the Netherlands. In 1999 he moved to Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, as General Manager and Managing Director of Al Furat Petroleum Company (and later the concurrent appointment of General Manager and Managing Director of Syria Shell Petroleum Developments.) In November 2002, John returned to the Sultanate of Oman as the Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman LLC. John retired from Shell in December 2010

John Malcolm was appointed Managing Director of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in November 2002. PDO is the operator of an oil exploration and production joint venture between the Government of Oman (60%), Shell (34%), Total (4%) and Partex (2%). PDO is also the operator of a substantial upstream gas business on behalf of the Government of Oman (100%). PDO’s total daily production of oil and gas is in excess of 1 million barrels of oil equivalent. It has a total annual budget in excess of $5billion. It is a high activity land based E&P company with 5800 staff and some 30,000 contractors.

Prior to rejoining PDO in 2002, John was the General Manager/Managing Dirctor of the Al Furat Petroleum Company; a 50/50 Government/Private Oil and Gas joint venture between the Syria Petroleum Company, Shell, and Petro Canada. Latterly, John also held the General Manger of Syria Shell Petroleum developments.
