Happily retired university lecturer in Electronic Engineering, recently moved from Cambridge to Bridge of Tilt, Perthshire. Overgrown hobbies now fill my time: filming short documentaries, recording interesting sounds, photography, researching quirky bits of history like the instances of sixteenth-century Flemish bells in Scotland and the wider UK. Spin-offs, diversions and tangential interests included! Happily involved with church life at the ancient Episcopal Church at Kilmaveonaig. Also regularly contributing to the work of the Dunkeld Community Archive. Recent projects include the filming of a documentary about the life of Niel Gow, the Scottish fiddler and composer; interpretation of some stained-glass windows; writing of guide books; writing about the origins of the bell of the Mary Rose—Henry VIII’s warship; photographing remote TV relay transmitters in the highlands; giving talks about any of the above.I also enjoy walking and exploring the countryside, trips away in my campervan, avoiding gardening and throwing bricks at the TV whenever Tory MPs speak.
