The Rescue & Firefighting Service Station Commander reports directly to the Senior Airport Fire Officer & is responsible for the coordination & management of the provision of Airport Fire & Rescue services on a shift by shift basis.Safety Accountabilities include the delivery of the Airport Fire & Rescue Services within the scope of the role in accordance with the appropriate regulatory requirements,buisness needs & industry best practice.Management of the Airport Fire Station & personnel.Operational duties & Fire fighting response in line with competence training & qualification.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESTo ensure an efficient approach to all operational incidents & Fire Service related issues.Carry out the role of Officer in Charge at incidents / accidents.Carry out the role of Instructor / Assessor / Verifyer as required in line with company training manual.Respond as part of the response compliment to emergency calls including aircraft emergency calls, first aid & domestic calls airside.Respond as part of the response compliment assuming supervisor position.

Responsible for a departmental workforce of around 50 personnel to include all aspects of safety and compliance within the aerodrome fire service. Management of Fire Service annual operational budget and month to month variance reporting to CEO. Identification and management of short and long term capital projects. Prominent player in the Emergency Planning process to meet regulatory requirements.

Responsible for day to day operations & prepardness of the Airport Fire Services. All aspects of Rescue & Fire Service Aerodrome licence requirements.

Ardeer Works ( Stevenston Ayrshire)

Employed in the manufacture of various explosives at the large ICI site on the West Coast of Scotland, duties included the process of producing casting powders,explosive igniter cord, shotgun & pistol powders. The process involved the use of detonators, black powder and nitro-glycerine, these duties came hand in hand with continuous training relating to the substances, emergency actions & safety. In 1985 I was appointed to the position of supervisor for the above processes, I was resposible for overseeing teams ranging from 15 - 30 staff. In 1989 I applied successfully for a position as an Emergency Services Operator at the large 2,200 acre site with a 15 mile perimeter boundry fence, I took up duties as in house Fire Service, Security Officer & Ambulance Driver working with the on site qualified nurses. Within 18 months I was appointed Senior Emergency Services Officer for my operational shift, duties included, dog handler, investigating security breaches, dealing with first responding emergency services to any incident within the site. In April 1992 I successfully applied for a position within the Crash Rescue at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
