I hold a Bachelors degree (Hon) in Education and Training (1998), and a Masters degree (Hon) in Adult Learning & Development (2003), both from the National University of Ireland, Galway. During that time, my experience with adult learning spans almost 35 years applying digital technologies to learning activities ranging from computer based training (CBT) to e-learning today. My involvement in many European projects on the application of digital technology to adult learning has provided me with an extensive experience in this area. These include EUROTECHNET (1987), PETRA (1991), EUROQUALIFICATION (1993), and INTERREG (1998) where, in 1998, I created and developed FÁS eCollege, the objective, of which, is to provide a wide range of e-learning courses to a larger audience of FÁS clientele using the World Wide Web. The common theme throughout those digitised projects was to orient students to consider their responsibility to themselves for their learning. This theme takes leave of the past and challenges the traditional understanding of institutions certifying and legitimising knowledge and practices in respect of learning and teaching. In 2011, I started a consultancy company called Star Training Consultancy Ltd and we deliver elearning through our eLearning4all.ie website. I have developed many elearning courses, Ranging from Apprenticeship training to soft-skills training; the most recent being a Retail Knowledge course certified by City & Guilds. All of our learners, thus far, passed their City & Guilds exam. Currently working on a number of elearning projects for the retail pharmacy sector. Show less
