I take a great deal of interest in learning about our government. Good citizenship requires not only active involvement but also knowledge of how government works. This program gave a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe how issues of public policy are debated, differences resolved, and statutes enacted. Learning how professionals resolve important issues helps me to do so in the same professional manner. Some people feel my generation does not know how to communicate with the people around us. Participation in this program taught me how to better communicate with those around me. Being around civic-minded leaders provided me with numerous positive role models, helping me to become the best version of myself. Throughout this process, I built lasting friendships with the people I worked with. I will look back on this opportunity as something which allowed me to serve my state in a meaningful manner that truly shaped me into a better person.

Seeing the need for a business organization at Bishop Garrigan, I spearheaded the effort in providing for the students. After receiving approval from the school board, I founded the organization. Since starting DECA, we have had plenty of success. In 2019, we had five first place winners, two second place, and a third place finish at district two competition. We were lucky enough to send two students to the nationals competition in Orlando after they both placed in the top three at State. I am hoping this organization will stay strong long after I graduate.
