As a Marine Science Technician in the U.S. Coast Guard for eleven years, I have been responsible for ensuring the environmental safety and security of the nation's waterways and maritime resources. I am a proven leader and manager with a comprehensive background in stakeholder relations, environmental regulation as well as health and safety compliance. I have worked with various military and civilian sectors, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, to coordinate and conduct environmental inspections, investigations, and assessments.As an environmental advocate, I contributed to multiple projects and initiatives that aim to protect and restore the marine environment, such as oil spill response, marine debris removal, and endangered species protection. I am a highly effective communicator, and as such I design and deliver regular training to the Coast Guard Auxiliary on the areas of pollution response procedures. My professional mission is to uphold the highest standards of environmental stewardship and sustainability while supporting operational and strategic goals. I will complete a Master of Science in Environmental Management and Policy with a focus on Sustainability from American Military University in December of 2023. I decided to retire from the Coast Guard to provide more geographic stability for my family and to be a part of the collective effort to build a more sustainable society. Although retiring from active-duty service is a big shift for me, I am eager to begin working in the civilian sector.
