About John Peyton

I am both an academic and public historian with seven years of experience in both academia and public history settings. My research interests include Indigenous history in the late 18th and early 19th century Great Lakes region, public memory, and digital mapping. I have published my work in peer-reviewed history journals including the Indiana Magazine of History, Middle West Review, and the Journal of the Early Republic. As a community-engaged scholar, I am devoted to working with diverse communities to ensure that their histories are ethically told and always go the extra mile in order to do just that. I will be starting my PhD at George Mason University this Fall 2024.
