Responsible for the oversight and development of a team comprised of mechanical design engineers and drafters. Develop systems and processes to streamline the interface with other Tesla teams including fabrication, purchasing, controls engineering, safety, maintenance, and manufacturing engineering. Work with cross-functional teams to develop simple solutions to complex problems and to ensure that we produce equipment that meets or exceeds OEE targets. Advise teams throughout Tesla on DFM principles and provide consultations on best practices in automation and manufacturing.Guide mechanical design efforts for factory automation projects across all areas of manufacturing at Tesla including: Battery Production, BIW, Drive Unit, General Assembly, and Validation/Testing in both the Automotive and Energy segments.

Played a critical role in all phases of multi-million dollar capital equipment programs; from initial concept ideation, cost estimates, and CAPEX approval pitches to resource planning, execution, and handoffs to sustaining engineering teams. Worked extensively with product design teams to improve DFM and DFA. Was accountable for the technical success of our team's work and responsible for the safety of our solutions. Notable projects during this time included two stator and drive unit assembly lines deployed at our new factory in Austin, Texas. Our Tesla Midwest Automation team completed these drive unit projects on-time and approximately $5MM under budget.

Lead Engineer responsible for the design, build, debug, installation, and commissioning of entire automated and semi-automated manufacturing lines. Major projects included "Raven" Drive Unit Assembly Line, Battery Module Wirebonding Line (cell interconnects), and the P2 Drive Unit Line.On the P2 Drive Unit line, I led a team of ~10 mechanical engineers to design, build, test, and commission the production equipment that assembles the rear drive unit for the Plaid Model S and Model X. This product gives the Plaid Model S the quickest acceleration of any vehicle in production.

Started at Tesla as part of the acquisition of PERBIX. Initial efforts included troubleshooting issues on existing automation and designing new equipment for the mission critical ramp of Model 3 production. This was all about coming up with scrappy solutions to increase throughput and achieve profitability as an organization.

Designed world class manufacturing equipment for Fortune 500 companies. Turned concepts and ideas into large and complex 3D models and produced detailed component drawings for fabrication and assembly. Work directly with the customer to define project requirements and ensure their complete satisfaction.

Assisted in research pertaining to a Hydraulic Hybrid Passenger Vehicle, a project of theCenter for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP). Acted as Project Manager for vehicle upgrades and control system tuning allowing graduate students to focus on analysis of test results.

Started with a focus on testing and analysis of electromechanical products. Grew into new product development role and project management with a focus on optimizing manufacturing operations and quality control. Designed and built fixtures and tools to improve production safety, ergonomics, and efficiency. Created and maintained engineering documentation, product literature, and all sales materials. Managed relationships with suppliers and conducted onsite operational audits internationally. Worked directly with customers to meet their lean inventory objectives and ensure compliance with their quality systems.
