Joined HCL as a Systems Technician working on multi-functional devices. This role included working on new product development and post launched machines. A good understanding of electro / mechanical systems and applying good engineering practices were required to succeed in this role. Responsibilities included:• The organisation and setting up machines for testing ensuring all required equipment was available.• The accurate recoding of data via software loggers, external hardware or written reports.• Ensure any problems were diagnosed to root cause level to ensure that machines achieved their maximum uptime for reliability testing. This may involve checking parts to drawings and checking critical parameters and specs. This would also include discussions with the relevant module manger.• Designing test plans independently and with subsystem engineers, design engineers and reliability engineers. • Use FMEA process and problem-solving process.• Maintaining machines with the latest try-out hardware parts and software which were tested as per specification and functional description. • Presenting test data to peers, senior management to enable decisions to be made on product progress and direction. Test reports were generated from MS Office applications or in-house reporting systems.

After successfully applying for a time and attendance position within the Commercial division of Interserve I was asked to take over the running of the Helpdesk. This Helpdesk covered two major high street stores. As well as dealing with ‘in contract’ tasks, ‘out of contract’ tasks required the submission of quotations, arrangement for the delivery of specialised equipment, the provision of ETA’s within the service line agreement. On satisfactory completion, the customer would be invoiced. Daily work plans were frequently required to be prioritised due to the nature of the work. Emergency tasks would require immediate attention in the organising of contract specialist cleaning teams or specialist equipment. A good telephone manner, clear communication and a Customer First attitude were essential in this role.In addition to the above the role also required the scanning and tracking of daily janitor logs, and the collating of accident reports. This data was tracked by spreadsheet and it was essential that is was completed accurately and quickly as it can be required where insurance claims are made against the company. This role expanded in February 2012 when I was asked to be the contact for local IT issues at the Hatfield office. In conjunction with this I had to maintain a data based auditing a system that tracked customer satisfaction. A monthly customer satisfaction report was submitted to the divisional director.

Testing and developing office printers / copiers and multifunctional devices. As Test Interface Engineer you are the primary contact for all test related issues. This includes test preparation and set up through to conducting tests to test plans, producing results and recommendations. As first contact for test events 80% of the day is spent in the test labs looking at failures / events in what is very much a ‘hands on’ role. Test Labs are operating at ambient and environmental extremes.The biggest challenges in this role are to ascertain ‘root cause’ understanding for first time events and maximise uptime of test machines.
