About John Sowa
Since the age of two I’ve enjoyed solving puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles, by their nature, invite the intrepid solver to complete a picture or drawing. And my professional work involves solving “puzzles” too. Before starting a puzzle, I must decide which one to put together. In my education and employment, I have constructed an interdisciplinary portfolio—my professional experience is a montage of images that interact indelibly. I begin by finding and putting together the edge pieces. This sets frame for the puzzle. I have degrees in chemical engineering and my frame of math, engineering and education have given me a scope with which to understand all of the other subjects that exist therein. I have publications in chemical engineering, biology, and religion and have experience in conducting research, teaching and preparing curriculum and read voraciously, both fiction and nonfiction (100+ books/year), each giving a grasp of different elements of both the people and technical parts of any job.Next, I sort pieces by size and shape and color. This allows me put the right pieces together. I like to get to know the elements of any job as I go about it. This includes the people I work with. I want to not only understand those elements myself but also be able to share this knowledge anyone else who needs to know. Finally, when a puzzle is completed there’s a sense of satisfaction, similar to a job is done well. I enjoy utilizing what I’ve learned to solve complex problems for and with people.
