Advocates ensure clients have access to resources and services to assist in meeting their basic needs, including referrals to safe shelter, food, transportation, clothing, hygiene assistance, referrals to appropriate health care services and assistance in those accessing services, crisis intervention, including de-escalation, referrals to victim services, and assistance in accessing other community resources as needed.

Supervised, provided support and established rapport with the Emergency Bed participants during assigned hours, while providing an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect. Advocates work to ensure all basic needs of the participants are met, and that they are provided with a safe, stable environment in which to work towards stability while providing services including meal preparation, youth access into the facility, emergency needs for youth such as bedding, food and hygiene, and monitoring the facility during the overnight hours as needed. I was also cross trained at our two Transitional Living Programs (Lighthouse and Buchanan) providing similar types of support to youth in a self sufficiency environment.

Worked with high school students on musical arrangements for various competitions and school related events. Skills were taught to access proper vocal warm up exercises for each individual, how to convey a story though different songs, ways to interpret the meanings of specific lyrics and the ability to express truthful emotions on stage. Along with working as a teaching artist I helped develop a summer musical theatre program where students where taught lessons of working cohesively in an ensemble setting, how to pick the best song to display their unique talents as well as learning a wide variety of new material for auditions.
