More recently the organisation has started to achieve national recognition and awards for the quality and effectiveness of its work and was one of the early adopters of the need to both grow and diversify income through corporate partnerships, trading, sponsorship and fundraising.During this time I also served as a Director of the County Sports Partnership National Network and was the initial Chair of the CSPN Learning and Organisational Development Group as well as completing consecutive three year stints as a Director of Streetgames UK; British Weightlifting and England Netball. After many successful and innovative years the organisation had fallen off the pace and was no longer providing the insight, direction and leadership required for developing coaching in the UK. Working with the Minister for Sport, senior civil servants, external partners, funders and colleagues we instituted a number of significant change programmes that produced the UK Vision for Coaching which, in turn, led to the establishment of the Minister's Coaching Task Force and the adoption of its… Show more After many successful and innovative years the organisation had fallen off the pace and was no longer providing the insight, direction and leadership required for developing coaching in the UK. Working with the Minister for Sport, senior civil servants, external partners, funders and colleagues we instituted a number of significant change programmes that produced the UK Vision for Coaching which, in turn, led to the establishment of the Minister's Coaching Task Force and the adoption of its recommendations including the establishment of the UK Coaching Certificate and 1st4sport Qualifications and, ultimately, a significant uplift in the funding available to develop coaches and coaching. During this time I also acted as a Director of Skills Active, Coachwise Ltd, (Sportscoach UK's wholly owned trading company) and as General Secretary for the International Council for Coach Education. Established the sports service in the new East Riding of Yorkshire Council following local government reorganisation in Humberside. This involved merging assets, staff and working practices from five separate local authorities as well as taking on the responsibility for providing and delivering the school swimming programme and the physical education advisory service.

Managed a range of sport, arts, countryside and tourism services including preparation for transfer of services to one of the four unitary authorities that replaced the County Council on local government reorganisation

Established a network of local authority employed sports development officers in every local authority in Wales.During this period I also chaired SPRITO's, the Industry Lead Body, working group that developed the first national standards for sports development.

This was a new role in the Council and was the first time that a Sports Council had decided to make a significant investment in sports performance. I recruited, led and developed a team of six specialist staff and worked with them to develop and then implement policy and investment programmes for performance sport including coaching.
