John Struthers is the Continuous Improvement (CI) Internal Consultant supporting General Mills Inc.’s Minneapolis based organizations. John joined General Mills in 1987 as a Team Leader at their West Chicago, IL cereal plant, where he held roles in both packing and processing. In 1991 John transferred to Albuquerque, NM where GMI was building a green-field cereal plant. There John stepped into the role of Training Manager where he was responsible for developing the training materials and training the new workforce. In 1993, John transferred to GMI’s largest plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as the Training Manager. In 2001 he assumed the leadership role for Total Productive Manufacturing/CI implementation within the Cedar Rapids Facility. The success at Cedar Rapids set the benchmark for rolling out Continuous Improvement throughout the rest of GMI. In 2005 John became GMI’s Continuous Improvement Internal Consultant where he led the expansion of CI across the General Mills Supply Chain. This role was expanded in 2007 to include driving CI throughout the corporation. Prior to joining General Mills, John received his BA in Education from Aurora University. After which, he was an educator and coach for the Oswego and East Aurora Illinois School Districts. He resides in Minneapolis, MN and has two sons and four grandchildren.
