Responsible for managing all functions of the Town’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Division, ensuring its effective and efficient use, and also assisting with the Town’s land use planning activities. Responsible for meeting demands for mapping and spatial information/analysis to support the demands of a wealth of customers including all Town departments, elected/appointed officials and local residents. Provides technical expertise to the Town’s short and long term planning and economic development efforts including support for Task Forces or special studies at the direction the Town Manager or Boards/Commissions. Directly support and/or lead the development of land use planning documents, including the Master Plan and other Task Force reports or studies by providing content, maps, graphics, and calculations to the department and other departments, boards and commissions in Town; examples of documents have included the Comprehensive Master Plan, Affordable Housing Task Force Report, Open Space Task Force Report, School District Impact Fee Study, North Fire Station Location Analysis, and other land potential studies or analyses.Assist with ongoing current planning activities as well as efforts to implement the Comprehensive Master Plan including ordinance review and development.

Responsibilities included:  Developing and maintaining spatial databases to support the local and regional planning process. GIS demands include information for both land use and transportation planning and analysis with emphasis on parcel-level detail.  Supervision of a GIS department staff and review of all work products to ensure that demands for suitable accuracy, timeliness, content and presentation are met. Representing the GIS Department at public meetings or presentations. Maintaining and operating a high detail regional Travel Demand Forecasting Model. In 2000/01, worked to develop a GIS-based user interface for an aging, command line application and upgrade the model to a ‘state of the practice’ standard. Later developed data needs to upgrade that same model from 365 zones to its current form of approximately 2,000 zones and 930 miles of road.  Routinely performing model runs of regional projects for air quality conformity or design needs and provide analysis of results in graphic form. This position involves significant information management for data inputs, network coding and calibration activities. Providing comprehensive technical support to a small office environment including network and systems administration, maintenance of the office web site, overseeing new purchases, and providing assistance with software applications and/or equipment.
