About John Walker
An enthusiastic, dedicated and highly experienced linguist with vast management and teaching experience, I am currently working as a Freelance Translator and Interpreter based in Lower Normandy, France. Prior to this I was employed as an Area Manager for Amazon France at the LIL1 Fulfilment Centre in Douai. Up until September 2020 I was a UK English translation specialist and post-editor from German and French with Amazon in Luxembourg for over three years. As the team Lead Linguist I had many responsibilities including project management and maintenance of standards and training within the department. I have interpreted at top level in Russian and German for the Ministry of Defence whilst serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF). At that time I was an airborne interpreter for the Joint Arms Control Implementation Group in ground armament inspections, the Open Skies airspace treaty and at arms control and proliferation conferences. These duties were performed on behalf of NATO in Europe and former USSR/Warsaw Pact states. I have vast experience in linguistic and intelligence matters from my service in the RAF as Reconnaissance, Search and Rescue and Instructional Aircrew.Since leaving the RAF, I also worked as a modern languages teacher on permanent and supply contracts, having taught adults in Russian and German at Ford Motors UK, in addition to German, French, Russian and History at Schools and Sixth Forms throughout the East of England.I completed a MA in Education with the Open University, having been awarded the PGCE in Modern Languages at the University of Nottingham, a BA with the Open University and a Postgraduate Interpreter's Diploma in Russian with the University of Westminster.With a keen eye for detail, commitment and exceptionally high standards, I am a versatile communicator and manager with a strong teamwork ethic but who can work independently to achieve results.
