Music Business:Afrobase presents a weekly African and afro-oriented music show hosted at www.totallyradio.com. Direct link is www.totallyradio.com/shows/afrobase where the archive of shows going back to 2004 still exists.Formed AfroBase in 2001 with Guy Morley (promoter, and African music collector) and launched a club night. With its success we launched the AfroBase radio show in early 2004 on Brighton's Juice 107.2 specialising in playing new and old, rare and scratchy, funk-friendly afro tropical tracks. In the summer of 2016 we moved to Brighton's Radio Reverb 97.2FM/DAB+ and www.radioreverb.com. The show now broadcasts on Tuesdays at 11pm, Fridays 7pm and Saturdays 3pm while remaining on the web at www.totallyradio.com where the shows can be heard on DAB+ on Fridays 12.30pm and Sundays 4pm. John continues to host the radio programme every week , and AfroBase continues to support top visiting African artists on live shows in the city. All shows and its archive are available at www.totallyradio.com/shows/afrobaseSifting and searching out African and Latin records since the early 70s and first started DJing the music in 1980. Started working under the name Ashanti with Martin Sinnock at clubs (Zap Club, Pan Afrique etc) and live venues in the south-east supporting the major African artists coming to the area like Hugh Masekela, Fela Kuti, and Thomas Mapfumo to name a few. Local radio came our way at the end of the 80s in Brighton with Festival Radio (https://www.festivalradio.org.uk/) presenting the Ashanti radio show. By the mid 90s started DJing Latin music, and opened up Brighton's first much loved weekly Latin club night in Brighton called The Salsa Party with Jaime Bonilla and Alex Ruhle. From the late 90s and with this background knowledge of African and Latin music, John continued to present music on FM radio and the web. Now with Radio Reverb 97.2 FM & DAB while remaining with Totallyradio.com on line and on DAB+.Audio Video Production: 1980-2020, Working with video and audio production for University of Brighton. In addition provided independent training and multimedia production for charitable and professional organisations, and managed independent projects.
