John Willison is the founder of Stanford Research Systems (SRS), a privately held scientific instruments company located in Sunnyvale California. The Company’s products include atomic clocks, mass spectrometers, RF signal generators, precision timing systems, and instruments for data acquisition in physical science laboratories. Since the company’s inception, Dr. Willison has lead the development of numerous instruments and their underlying technologies.SRS designs, manufactures, and sells its instruments worldwide. The Company has a history of inventing and deploying technologies to provide its customers with new levels of performance and value, and then selectively licensing that technology to other manufacturers. Hundreds of thousands of SRS products are operating in laboratories around the globe.John’s educational background includes pre-college basement laboratories in Ohio and Massachusetts (a credit to his accommodating parents), undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and physics from Rutgers, and a PhD in physics from Stanford. While at Stanford he was honored with the Gores Award, the University’s highest award for excellence in teaching.John’s creativity is facilitated by an apparent ability to see around corners in a technological maze. When necessary he can leap tall buildings in a single bound, if only metaphorically. He is the proud father of four college-educated, launched, Millennials. He cries at performances of Les Miserables. A good day includes an empty calendar, a few hours in one of his laboratories, and returning to his quiet home in Palo Alto before 6 PM for dinner overlooking a small backyard.
