Teacher Assistant
Assisted Dr. Ruihua Liu in his Calculus III class with grading quizzes, proctoring tests, and hosting personal office/review hours. I enjoyed hosting my own office hours the most as I really got to connect with the students in the class that way. Being able to help my fellow students with their questions was really worthwhile as I was able to contribute to their success and I got to see how I was progressing as a Teacher Assistant.

Student Engineer: Ud Ethos Domestic Immersion
For 20 years, the University of Dayton ETHOS Center has provided engineering undergrads with service learning opportunities across the country and the world. By forming partnerships with local communities and small businesses, young students are able to get practical work experience. In return, the community sponsors get fresh new ideas towards projects ranging from redesigning infrastructure to developing sustainable farming practices.Over the fall semester of 2021, I worked for Heart of Unlimited Boundaries, inc. in West Liberty, OH. The HUB is a non-profit organization that uses unconventional but highly effective means of physical therapy to help people with special needs. From go-carts to mechatronic toys, the organization has been able to provide treatments that reach through to kids in ways that the traditional doctor's office never could. In addition to the physical therapy program, the HUB also offers classes to anyone wanting to learn the basics of 3D printing. My supervisor, Mr. Rocky Grimes, views 3D printing as a way for disadvantaged individuals to interact with the community by making toys, specialized parts, and jewelry. Over the semester, we designed a system that will accurately wind and count precise lengths of printing filament to be used later on. The project was very entertaining as I've gotten to both design the system in a mechanical sense, and to write the logic code for controlling it with Arduino. My role as an engineering intern was to apply my technical knowledge towards the HUB's projects in 3D printing, computer programming, and mechanical design. From a technical standpoint, I improved my skills in SolidWorks, Arduino IDE, and TinkerCAD. More importantly, I developed a service learning agenda by giving special needs individuals a means to overcome the physical or psychological barriers that have previously kept them from getting involved in the community.
Testing And Project Engineer Co-Op
Over the Fall of 2020, I co-oped at the Emerson Climate Technologies plant of Sidney, Ohio as a Testing and Project Engineer. I worked primarily on using computer software to redesign parts used in Emerson's commercial and industrial refrigerant compressors. In addition, I collected and analyzed performance data from tests that were run on Emerson's compressors. One of my highlights of the co-op work term was a student collaboration project in conjunction with Emerson's Chemical Engineering department. A group of a dozen Emerson co-ops, including myself, were asked to design an automated system to perform tests on commercial refrigerant in Emerson's chemical engineering department. I gained a lot of experience with modeling designs in SolidWorks and writing code in MATLAB. The project also really helped me develop my communication and networking skills. One task I had for the project that I was new to was contacting companies outside of Emerson for assistance with our project. Very often did I have to contact a supplier about getting a specific part to test, or information about the quality of a part we had in stock. Taking that first step in branching out to different companies was a whole new experience for me and it really helped improve my networking skills.
