Bookseller
I work multiple positions within the store such as Customer Service, Cashier, and Inventory/Receiving. My responsibilities in these positions include stocking and zoning the shelves, helping customers order or locate material, processing cash and card transactions, and manage phone orders .I work with our Community Relations Manager to promote and run store events. These can be for a certain school such as a book fair, author signings, promotional events, and book clubs. I currently run a community book club for the store every third Thursday at 6.
Writing Center Tutor
My general duties as a Writing Center Consultant/Tutor were to review submitted essays, articles, reports, and cover letters from students, faculty, graduate students, and community members. I not only offered grammatical feedback to writers, but used my knowledge of literary theory, critique, and format styles to offer comprehensive insight into each unique writer's process. In order to offer services, general computer skills were required to handle electronic submissions and file audits These skills included professional proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Besides literary, writing, and computer expertise people skills were an important tool for interactive and successful conferences. Whether handling a sample of writing via email or in an in-person encounter, a polite attitude and work ethic were always utilized.
Quality Assurance Analyst Ii
Quality Assurance Analyst I
My responsibilities as Quality Assurance Analyst I include: • Reporting to Quality Assurance Analyst II about state of ongoing projects in our department• Conduct communication between the Quality Assurance (QA) department and Project Managers (PM) about questions/issues with the project at hand• Using translation and editing software like Xbench and Studio 2014 to organize and review documents in various languages with attention to formatting, consistency and accuracy• Manual editing and formatting documents in digital or printed format
Independent Contractor
As an independent contractor at CTS LanguageLink I worked in two departments: Desktop Publishing (DTP) and Quality Control (QC). Both involved the editing process. DTP duties included working across several formats (Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Word) to design and create professional documents per individual client's needs. I also worked to upload and package data in the SDL Trados 2014 software. In DTP I worked under section leads and project managers to develop and deliver professional documents. In 2014 I worked as a DTP lead for a large California voter's project. As a lead I distributed documents to members of the staff, checked work for errors, and acted as liaison between the Project Manager and the DTP department. As part of the QC department I served as a copy editor whose primary duties included reading documents for both grammatical and stylistic errors. In QC I prepared and annotated PDF documents for translator review. I worked with many other QC members under two QC leads. Both departments were a fast-paced, high stress, but extremely rewarding office environments that required talent in multi-tasking across several divisions with an emphasis on detail.
Student Teacher
At the Child Development Program I helped the full time teachers watch the children during recess, outdoor activities, and lunch. Other student teachers and I supervised children during their rest time and helped them with inside craft activities.
Prose Editor
My duties included scouting, collecting, reading, and reviewing submissions. The process of editing included examining submissions for readability, basic grammar, and then organizing the submissions between accepted and rejected. I presented these organized submissions at the Salmon Creek Journal retreat for final voting. Other duties involved planning events for Salmon Creek Journal. These could range anywhere from sitting in on other club meetings to produce an event in tandem, planning individual workshops, designing a theme for an event, planning Posters, costumes, food, event names, etc. The workshops were particularly important as they helped promote the Journal among the student body, faculty, and community.
