I was a member of the Society of Garden Designers until 2011 when I was made a fellow. The Society (www.SGD.org.uk) is the professsional body for Garden Designers in the UK and was 30 years old in 2011.

I originally held the treasurer's role from 2004-2009, but rejoined Council as treasurer in 2020 and subsequently as vicechair. Treasurer is more of a Business Director's role rather than the 'gatekeeper' role of a tradtional treasurer. Examples would be the completion of a feasibility study on publishing options for the Society's magazine 'The Garden Design Jornal' followed by selction and engagement of a new publisher. SImilar process with the website. I also was in charge of (and I am still involved with) the Society's commercial Partnership opportunities - sponsorship of conferences, awards and the like. A thoroughly stimulating and fulfilling post.

In 2014 I finished a five year stint as an external examiner on the Landscape Architecture degree course at University of Greenwich. I really enjoyed the position. It gave me a useful insight into current education methods within the UK university system in Landscape Architecture.
