The research project directed by post-doctoral fellow Lydia Abebe was analyzing the effectiveness of chitosan as a supplement to ceramic pot filters. The study compared the ability of a ceramic pot filter to remove bacteria and viruses with and without the addition of the coagulant chitosan. The Fund for the Public Interest ran two campaigns the summer I worked there. One was for Environment North Carolina. It strove to ban fracking in North Carolina to preserve water quality. The other, for North Carolina Public Interest Research Group, worked to ban the use of antibiotics as a preventative treatment on factory farms. Through the summer, I raised $6,605.90 over 35 days with an average of $188.74 a day. As a canvasser, I was responsible for •Meeting both daily and weekly fundraising goals. •Covering a route of approximately 60 homes•Convincing community members to get engaged with the issues either monetarily, as volunteers, or by signing petitions. As campaign coordinator, I was responsible for•Training new canvassers and assist old canvassers improve their skills through role played scenarios.•Creating routes for each canvasser.•Keeping a positive attitude through the workplace.•Remaining in contact with all canvassers on my field team throughout the day and ensuring they are both motivated and doing well. •Collecting and counting all money raised by my canvassing team for a particular day.
