At SSEN Transmission, we have a critical role to play in supporting delivery of UK and Scottish Government targets to tackle the climate emergency and secure the country's future energy independence, as we deliver a network for net zero emissions in the north of Scotland, securing power for future generations. As Head of Local Authority Engagement, I am responsible for proactively leading the team responsible for managing SSEN Transmissions engagement with Local Authorities across the north of Scotland.As part of the Corporate Affairs Transmission team, I am responsible for leading SSEN Transmissions engagement with Local Authority Executive Teams, Councillors and Committees, working closely with colleagues across the business and the wider industry to help meet business objectives and support the transition to net zero emissions. I lead a team of regionally-based Local Authority Engagement Managers, responsible for supporting the development and delivery of SSEN Transmissions major capital investment projects across the north of Scotland.

Working in partnership, Dundee City Council, the University of Dundee, Northwood Trust and Eden have brought these ambitious plans forward to create a unique and internationally recognisable project.Eden Project Dundee will be a transformative project for the city, drawing on its rich history and playing an important role in the regeneration of the Dundee waterfront.Eden Project Dundee will be a landmark development for the city, transforming the former gasworks on East Dock Street into a beacon for regeneration and green tourism. It will encourage visitors to think, feel and act differently by revealing how we can learn from and be inspired by nature. The project will combine exhibits, performance, learning, play, immersive experiences, world class horticulture, live music, art and food, beverage and retail spaces, all integrated as essential parts of the overall experience. The project is inspired by Dundee’s Nine Incorporated Trades and will introduce a new set of contemporary Guilds. These Guilds will be underpinned by the perspectives and skills needed for a regenerative future.

The purpose of Tayside NHS Board is to ensure the efficient, effective and accountable governance of the NHS Tayside system, and to provide strategic leadership and direction for the system as a whole, focusing on agreed outcomes.The Board’s boundaries are coterminous with these local government areas, which had a combined population of 416,090 based on mid-year 2017 population estimates published by National Records of Scotland.NHS Tayside’s governance includes 3 major and a number of community hospitals, including the University of Dundee’s Medical School attached to the regions flagship institute, Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. It also includes over 60 GP surgeries and a variety of health centres staffed by thousands of employees of the health region.

Following a merger of the Housing/ Environment/ Communties Department this role came to an end and was superceded by my new role as Convener of Neighbourhood Services. As convener, I maintain responsibility for the strategic and policy direction of Dundee City Council's Housing Department. Dundee City Council's Housing Department is the largest landlord in the city and maintains over over 13,000 properties. The department currently has an income of approximately £49 million, with a Capital Investment and Planned Maintenance Budget of £26.042 million. In addition, the Housing Department has been investing £140 million over consecutive years in irder to ensure that all of our core stock meets the Scottish Housing Quality Standard by 2015.

Drawing on the extensive experience of its members, the Advisory Council will use insight to bring forward bold ideas that will transform the economy.The 10 year National Strategy for Economic Transformation was to be ambitious and will look to drive Scotland’s economic transformation as the country recovers from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and transitions to a net zero economy. Working to unleash entrepreneurial potential and grow Scotland’s competitive business base, the national strategy will prioritise investment in the industries of the future and deliver new, good and green jobs.

In the aftermath of the announced closure of Dundee's Michelin's tyre manufacturing site in Dundee, one of the largest private sector employees in the region, I led the action group looking at potential options.The Michelin Action Group was led by myself, as Leader of Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise chief executive Steve Dunlop.The Michelin Action Group worked tirelessly to explore all options and provide Michelin with a proposition that demonstrates what support can offered to retain the presence of this international mobility mammoth and reannimate the city.The conclusion of those efforts was the creation of the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) - https://www.msipdundee.com/about-us/

Sustain Dundee was established as a charitable company limited by guarantee in March 2003. It is a multi-agency group of private, public and voluntary organisations including Scottish Enterprise Tayside, the University of Dundee, Tayside Recyclers, Community and Voluntary Alliance, NCR and Forward Scotland as well as Dundee City Council.Sustain Dundee 'exists to encourage and support projects which promote sustainability in its widest sense, including land improvement, measures to combat pollution, preservation and improvement of historic and architecturally important buildings, sustainable resource use and biodiversity for benefit of the public.'Sustain Dundee is linked into the community planning process through the environment theme group, Dundee Partnership for the Environment, and seeks to work with organisations such as Dundee Sustainability Forum and Greenspace Scotland. It endeavours to act as a catalyst for projects, providing support and guidance to existing groups and encouraging new ventures. Sustain Dundee sought to develop bids to Biffaward for biodiversity projects.

Tayside Contracts is a commercially based local authority contracting organisation providing catering, cleaning, roads maintenance, vehicle maintenance and winter maintenance throughout the Tayside area of Scotland.Tayside contracts operates with an annual turnover in excess of £68 million.It is the commercial trading arm of the Councils of Angus, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross and employ approximately 2500 people operating out of in excess of 300 establishments. Tayside Contracts operates under a Joint Committee comprising of elected members from each constituent council who are responsible for the companies overall governance.

Dundee Ice Arena is a multi-purpose ice rink arena located in the Camperdown district of Dundee. The arena has a capacity of 2,300 seats, making it the third largest ice rink arena by capacity in Scotland. It hosts a number of events such as Dundee Stars home hockey games and figure skating competitions. Dundee Ice Arena's Board of Directors provides overall strategic direction for the company. Tayside Police Joint Board covered the council areas of Angus, City of Dundee and Perth and Kinross (the former Tayside region) until 1 April 2013, at which point the force was subsumed into Police Scotland. The Joint Board provided local elected member scrutiny and overall direction for the force.The total area covered by the force was 2,896 square miles (7,500 km2) with a population of 388,000. The force operated from 27 police stations and had an establishment of over 1100 police officers - Tayside Police was Scotland's fourth-largest police force.

Tayside Fire and Rescue Joint Board maintained responsibility for providing direction to the organisation until the introduction of the Scottish Fire & Rescure Service on April 1st 2013.Our aim was to provide the highest standard of fire safety and emergency response services to the communities we served.Tayside Fire and Rescue employed over 700 personnel spread across the council boundaries of Dundee City, Angus and Perth & Kinross. Of these 409 were operational wholetime firefighters, 236 were retained firefighters, and 24 volunteer firefighters. The Brigade had responsibility for some 7,770 sq kilometres (3,000 sq miles) of area - protecting a population in the region of 416,000.
