I am a proofreader and editor for authors of general, legal, and technical manuscripts and academic papers to PhD level. I have twenty years experience in this field and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) from the University of Melbourne where I was awarded honours in philosophy. Between 2004 and 2012, I peer-reviewed, edited and recommended for publication scholarly articles submitted by legal academics in the 'Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management'. My expertise is in the English and Latin languages. I do not rewrite academic papers or alter their content substantially save where this is made known, to my satisfaction, to the relevant degree-conferring institution.My interest in language stems from my family and educational background. I was born in Scotland in 1948, coming to Australia with my doctor parents in 1951, my father having flown Spitfires in combat over occupied France, North Africa and Malta with RAF Fighter Command during WWII, and later appointed Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at RAAF Base Williamtown, NSW and then CMO and Head of Aviation Medicine at RAAF Base Williams, Point Cook, Victoria where I met the teacher who stimulated my interest in English language.In 1955, my father was offered a research position by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the father (and mother!) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. He declined as he was under contract to the RAAF and it was not his nature to dishonour an agreement. He had decided to call Australia 'home', a wise and far sighted decision for which he earned the gratitude of the many who comprised the future generations.I was educated at Xavier College, Kew and the University of Melbourne where at the latter institution, under the mentorship of Dr. Max Charlesworth and Professor Lauchlan Chipman, I developed an interest in Philosophy, particularly in the works of Plato, Berkeley, Kant and Hume.I practised as a criminal defence barrister and appeared before the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria and the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, and the Court of Criminal Appeal of the Northern Territory. I was a guest lecturer in Mercantile Law at Charles Darwin University for two years prior to its acquiring university status.I help authors express ideas clearly and accurately in English.
