Principal Scientist/Clinical Director member of the Translational Medicine team, aiming to design and lead early stage clinical trials with an eye toward the full developmental pipeline and human health impact.

I study the tumor-immune microenvironment and secreted factors produced by pancreas adenocarcinomas (PDAC) that act to suppress gamma delta T cells. My translational work aims to understand the mechanisms used by PDAC to suppress T cell activation to develop rational, combinatorial immunotherapy strategies. My work leverages patient-derived tumor organoid models (Dr. Jeremy Kratz lab) and the immunologic expertise of the laboratory of Dr. Christian Capitini to investigate the tumor-immune microenvironment, applying a multi-disciplinary approach, employing proteomic, transcriptomic (RNAseq), and metabolomic analyses.

Oncology fellow with a focus on translational immunotherapy, particularly in the context of pancreas adenocarcinoma. My work post-doctoral research explores mechanisms within the tumor-immune microenvironment that drive suppression of gamma delta T cell activation, seeking to identify targets for rational combinatorial immunotherapy. I am an active SITC member, privileged to attend SITC SCION (2023) and to be recognized as an Outstanding Fellow (Wisconsin Association of Hematology/Oncology) for my translational research work. I am working with Dr. Nataliya Uboha, MD, PhD to launch a clinical trial investigating rational, combinatorial immunotherapy approaches in biliary tract cancers. I am developing educational materials with TumorBoardTuesday, helping to build an online, interactive community of oncology physician thought leaders, and patient advocates that discusses oncology advances. The experience allows me to network with thought leaders and to expand my own knowledge base.

TumorBoardTuesday is a social media initiative (Twitter based) that combines expert discussion and commentary on oncology advances and precision medicine with an online community to accelerate dissemination of cutting-edge oncology practice. I work with the TBT team to produce the Thursday case wrap ups that summarizes the weekly discussion, producing a graphical abstract, as well as conducting video interviews with key opinion leaders across the oncology space, both within the US and internationally.

Bringing precision delivery platforms to the clinic to power next generation immunotherapies. Our platform is optimized to deliver large genomic therapies, in the right immunologic context, to prime and sustain anti-tumor immune responses. Nano RED's platform is also optimized to deliver to hard-to-reach tissues, including the lung, with active exploration of Cystic Fibrosis therapy delivery. Nano RED is a winner of the 2016 Nanotechnology Startup Challenge in Cancer sponsored by the NIH and Center for Advancing Innovation and the 2017 winner of the Life Sciences category in the Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Competition, as well as a 2020 Nature Spin Off Company to watch. Honored to be the 2021 Pressure Chamber Golden Suitcase Award winner.

Assisted in developing new partnerships with industry and investors to advance lead candidates to clinical trials. Successfully aided Essential Biotechnology in the Healthcare Innovation Pitch leading to Essential Biotechnology's recognition as the 2015 Healthcare Innovator of the Year for Southeast Wisconsin, as well as international recognition in the Licensing Executives Society Business Plan Contest, and recognition as a finalist in the Wisconsin Governor's Business Plan Contest.

Conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. John Kuo, MD, PhD. My work focused on understanding dysregulated microRNA and gene expression patterns in glioblastoma multiforme-initiating cells (cancer stem-like cells). Other projects aimed to understand where glioblastoma-initiating cells stand in terms of the developmental state of the cell, as well as an effort to map out the location of this subpopulation within glioblastomas.
