Hi! I'm a Duke-NUS grad student with a diverse, somewhat eclectic mix of research experience and skills: molecular virology, molecular ecology, public health, and wildlife biology. I feel strongly about One Health (the integration and codependence of environmental, human, and animal health) and the human dimension of environmental sciences.My graduate research (MSc.) is in molecular virology with a focus on evolutionary biology of negative-sense viruses; I am most familiar with phylogenetic analysis but have experience in BSL2+ virology research skills. I have a strong foundation in general biomedical sciences, with coursework training in physiology, pharmacology, and epidemiology.My undergraduate training was in environmental biology with a focus on tropical ecology (with a secondary focus on interrelated disciplines such as human geography, environmental law, and policy). Related skills include terrestrial biodiversity sampling, environmental impact assessment, ecological data analysis.For my undergraduate thesis research, I transitioned from traditional ecology to molecular ecology. My topic concerned disease surveillance in Singapore wildlife: I sampled land snails across Singapore and used next-generation sequencing to barcode and identify suspected endoparasites. I later worked as a research assistant in the same lab, continuing to use NGS barcoding in a range of arthropod biodiversity projects.
