My key achievements were the approval of the first regional Economic Development Strategy and the first Rural Futures Strategy. I led the Policy, Planning and Strategy team through the introduction of a number of new initiatives including the Business Confidence Survey, The Regional Economic Profile and the first of the business sector development initiatives in the food industry.

Rutland, England

My key achievements were the revision, agreement and delivery of the Community Strategy and the Economic Development Strategy with the Local Strategic Partnership – as well as revising the Local Strategic Partnership to become the key community wide consultation body. I also led the senior cross regional team on the development of the first Local Area Agreement and the successful establishment of the Local Public Service Board to deliver the outcomes in that Local Area Agreement.

Melton Mowbray, England

My key achievements were the establishment of two successful local tourism destination partnerships to manage the delivery of the local tourism plan – along with the generation of development programs and funding schemes. This also included the production of a place marketing strategy for the regions – including establishing one as the Rural Capital of Food and Drink in the UK. Part of this was involvement in the submission to the European Community for “protected designation of origin” for the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, and the creation of a highly successful Melton Mowbray Food and Drink Festival.

Loughborough, England

My key achievements were the creation of the area’s first Tourism Strategy, its first Arts Strategy including policies for public art, and the creation of a public art collection – as well as the introduction of a Service Level Agreement with the local arts foundation. I also managed the development of three museums doubling visitation and tripling visitor spend. Through my management of the local tourist information centres I introduced electronic delivery for ticket sales for a number of local cultural venues and museums.

Loughborough, England

Manager of team delivering business development and expansion programmes. This included the coordination of the provision of business advice and support, the project management of new commercial and industrial property including the building of two Business Centres, three industrial estates and the sale of over 200Ha of industrial land, the management of Council’s existing industrial and commercial property portfolio reducing vacancies to 5% pa and rent arrears to zero, the attraction of inward investment including relocations such as British Gas and AstraZeneca, and the monitoring of the local economy and production of quarterly reports.
