I serve as the Presiding Judge of the 72nd District Court, which serves Lubbock and Crosby Counties. The 72nd District Court is a court of general jurisdiction, but by local agreement, it hears primarily civil and family law cases in Lubbock County, and all types of cases in Crosby County, including criminal and juvenile matters. The 72nd District Court is the region's oldest district court and the only circuit court based in Lubbock County.I was born and raised in Midland. I received my BA from Trinity University in 1985 and my JD from St. Mary’s in 1993. I was in private practice in San Antonio from 1993 until 2001, handling a little of everything…criminal, PI, DTPA, and family law. In 2001, my wife was transferred to Lubbock. I joined the Civil Division of the Criminal District Attorney’s Office, handling civil litigation and providing general counsel to the county’s elected officials and department directors. In 2010, I moved to the City Attorney’s Office. My projects at the City have included redistricting, review and reorganization of the code of ordinances, the 2010 and 2012 legislative agendas and the revision of the city’s emergency operations plan. I handled civil litigation for the City and also act as a City Prosecutor in Municipal Court. I hold a Type 7 federal firearms license and an amateur radio Technician’s license (K5JCG). I collect antique ink wells and old typewriters. I have been married to my college sweetheart since 1986 and we have a daughter who graduated from our alma mater, Trinity University, in 2016. My wife has two dogs four cats.
